DAYTON, OHIO (July 19, 2019) – Country music station K99.1FM is again a finalist for a prestigious Marconi radio award — and a Dayton podcast is also a finalist in a new Marconi category this year, Best Radio Podcast of the Year.

The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) have announced the finalists for the 2019 NAB Marconi Radio Awards, honoring radio stations and on-air personalities for excellence in broadcasting. Two Cox Media Group Ohio products are nominees.

“This is such an honor for K99.1 FM, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. K99 is a true gem for the Dayton community and is beloved by its listeners. It has always put the community first, and it’s so rewarding to be recognized for that work,” said Vice President of Content Jana Collier.

K99.1FM has been nominated as Medium Market Station of the Year and is a past winner in this category and “What Had Happened Was…” is a first time nominee in a new category.

“Amelia has been a great innovator for Cox Media Group Ohio, so it’s no surprise that her local podcast would be nominated for NAB’s first-ever podcast award. Amelia is an incredibly versatile journalist who’s passionate about the Dayton community and about telling its stories. She’s so deserving of this award,” said Collier of “What Had Happened Was…” creator, Amelia Robinson.

Robinson was recently honored as the Society of Professional Journalists’ Best Columnist in Ohio, and she won second in the state for columnist from the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors.

WHKO is the Dayton Children’s Radiothon Station of the Year and has raised more than $4 million dollars for Dayton Children’s since 1998. The station also won the National Association of Broadcasters Crystal Award in 2018 for outstanding community service and has been nominated for several Academy of Country Music Association awards.
